“House of Peace”

The Interfaith Association does what its title suggests and promotes tolerance and understanding between religions. The association works with children, the police, and other groups and receives some funding from the City Council. The organisation has decided it needs headquarters in Edinburgh, ideally in a building which is not a converted church but rather a new building, prominent but devoid of religious symbolism. We were asked to help find a site for a building which would consist of a 200-seat flexible auditorium, a small exhibition area, café, meeting rooms and offices and a nursery for 40 children and play area. There is also an aspiration to be relatively close to the city centre. Sites in the centre with a potential play area are hard to find and we looked at a number before discovering a site on the edge of the New Town on Brandon St which has resulted from a road re-alignment in the 1970’s.

To help the organisation, the project has been designed to this stage gratis by us in the belief that fees will be paid when it becomes a real.
