Arts & Culture \ Greenock Ocean Terminal and Wyllieum

The project began construction in April 2021 and was completed in summer 2023.

The design for a waterfront building at Greenock is sponsored by Inverclyde Council but inhabited by three separate organisations. Peel Ports who operate the adjacent container port also accommodate a growing cruise liner trade and their ambition is to grow the trade to 100 visits per year. A new pontoon in the Clyde was specially constructed with one wing of the new building designed as a hall for processing the very large numbers of passengers who will disembark on every visit. The other wing, the 'Wyllieum', is devoted to the George Wyllie Trust and consists of exhibition spaces, office, reception/shop and archive storage and will show Wyllie’s work and other visiting exhibitions. Between the two wings is a sculpture garden, spanning across the top of both wings is an independently accessed restaurant and roof terrace with a panoramic view of the Clyde.  The first liner passengers arrived in June 2023 and the new restaurant 'Scotts of Greenock' also opened to great success. The Wyllieum Gallery is anticipated to open in the Spring 2025.
