Education \ Coatbridge College Redevelopment

Our project at Coatbridge College extends and alters the 1960s building, which is in itself an addition to the original 1930s College. A major programme of works to this latter building designed by Archial Architects was completed in 2011. Our project was in two phases. The first phase showed a new foyer along the entire east elevation of the original building, and is primarily for conference use and gives access to a completely refurbished lecture theatre and breakout rooms. The second phase consisted of internal reorganisation and refurbishment. A two storey top lit space was proposed in the centre of the plan and from this refurbished departments of beauty and hairdressing are immediately accessible as well as reduced but refurbished catering facilities. The objective of this phase was not simply to upgrade the College's facilities, but at the same time to make the entire geography of the 1960s building legible and to abolish as much as possible the current experience of endless artificially lit corridors.

Construction began in May 2011 and was completed at the end of 2012.
